Helen C. Rowland, 93, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Countryside Home in Madison, Neb. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Lozer of Mayflower Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Helen C. Rowland was born Nov. 21, 1920, in McCordsville, Ind., the daughter of Ashley and Edith (Seigmond) Shaffer. She graduated from high school and was a homemaker raising her two daughters. Helen and her husband, Sidney, made Sioux City their home following their wedding on Aug. 11, 1945, in New Augusta, Ind. Sidney preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1989, in Sioux City. Helen was a resident of Sioux City for 52 years. Helen was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church in Sioux City. She was also a member of Eagles Auxiliary 27, American Legion Auxiliary 77 and D.A.V. Auxiliary 54. Survivors include her two daughters, Janet and her husband, Harold Kneifl of Sioux City, and Rebecca and her husband, Russell Wiggs of Aurora, Colo.; one brother, Larry Shaffer of Wilmington, Del.; two sisters, Barbara McDonald of Noblesville, Ind., and Mary Jo of Pendleton, Ind.; along with five grandchildren, Kandy, Greg, Brett, Stephen and Scott; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Ralph and an infant brother; and one grandson, Jeff.
