Gerald D. "Jerry" Hansel, 77 of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday. May 21, 2014 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 11:00 A. M. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Rev. Michael Erpelding will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Jerry was born March 19, 1937 in Sioux City; he was the son of Darrell and Mildred (Mongar) Hansel. Jerry grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. He married Betty "Joan" Leaf Feb. 9, 1957 in Sioux City, she passed away Feb. 11, 2013 in Sioux City. Jerry worked for many years for Schaeff Manufacturing (North American Manufacturing) until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his children and grandchildren's activities. He was an Iowa Hawkeye fan. Jerry enjoyed sports and playing golf. He liked to dance and spend time with his dog, Hawkeye. Survivors include his children: Craig Hansel (Diane) of Lenexa, KS, Jill Dugdale (Steve) of Sioux City, Scott Hansel of Dallas, TX, T.J. Hansel (Lisa) of Sioux City; his brothers and sisters: Molly Wetzbarger of Dakota Dunes, SD, Tom Hansel (Sherry) of Sioux City, Rob Hansel (Vickie) of Sioux City, Vince Hansel of Wichita, KS, Kim Byrne (Rick) of Omaha, NE; 7 grandchildren: Jessica Bustillo (Jake), Megan Hansel, Melissa Tanner (Dusty), Stephen Dugdale (Haley), Codi Graves, Taylor Graves and Tanner Hansel; 5 great grandchildren: triplets: Aspen, Madalen and Landen Tanner, Channing Heck, Liam Bustillo and 2 more on the way. Pallbearers will be Tom and Rob Hansel, Steve and Stephen Dugdale, Taylor Graves and Tanner Hansel. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan, 5 brothers and sisters: Bev, Janiene, Jack, Irene and Patricia. The family would like to thank Hospice of Siouxland for the excellent care they gave to Jerry.
