Verona M. Wallen, 96, of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Touchstone Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Verona was born on May 9, 1918 in Cherokee, IA to Thomas and Minnie (Anderson) DeMond. She graduated from Central High School in 1935. She went on to graduate from Morningside College in 1940 and earned her degree in Library Science from USD. She worked as a teacher and librarian for West Jr. High School. She was united in marriage to Robert C. Wallen on August 10, 1940 at First United Methodist Church in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1980 in Sioux City. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and traveling to multiple places around the world. She also enjoyed camping and wintering in Texas. She was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church and the Fraternal Order of the Eastern Star. Verona is survived by her 2 daughters Gail Ryan of Sioux City; Diana (Raymond) Frerichs of Sioux City; 9 grandchildren, Michele, Renée, Tammi, Robert, Michael, Mark, Eric, Heather and Melissa; 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Marilyn Anthony, 2 brothers Orville and Donald DeMond.
