Alan Mercuriali, 65 of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening, Monday, May 19, 2014 at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service beginning this evening at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Alan was born on October 23, 1948 in Sioux City to Nino and Maxine (Padgett) Mercuriali. He graduated from East High in Sioux City before joining the work force with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Alan was drafted into the United States Army, served his country in the Vietnam War before receiving his Honorable Discharge after serving three years. He returned to Sioux City, once again working for the railroad, where Alan worked his way up from Brakeman to Fireman to Engineer before his health forced his retirement in 2004. Alan enjoyed fishing, working on old cars; of which he had a significant collection, and boating. He was a proud member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Alan will be greatly missed. Alan is survived by his mother Maxine Mercuriali of Las Vegas, NV; sisters Sherry Rich of Las Vegas, NV and Janice Nyreen of Sioux City; and numerous friends and extended family. Alan was preceded in death by his father Nino in 1965, and brother-in-law Edward Nyreen.
