Betty L. Rose, 94, of Dakota Dunes, SD passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Prairie Estates Health Care Community in Elk Point, SD. Per her wishes Betty's body will be cremated. A visitation will be on Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service to be held at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 with Rev. Jeff Vore officiating at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial of her cremains will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. (Hough) Schmurr. She graduated from Central High School in 1939. She was united in marriage to James Rose on October 25, 1940 in Baltimore, MD. Betty was very proud to be a "Rosie the Riveter" working out of Atlanta, GA during World War II. She owned and operated various businesses around the Siouxland area for many years. She tried to live her life to the fullest enjoying cooking for family and friends, tending her garden and fishing. She was a member of the McCook Lake Chapter Izaak Walton League and a past member of the Methodist Church Food Pantry. She is survived by her 2 nephews Don (Deb) O'Connor of Dakota Dunes, SD; Jim Nelson of Sioux City, IA; 2 nieces Pat Simpson of South Sioux City, NE; and Lori L. (Mark) Nelson-Miller of New Richmond, WI; 7 great nieces and nephews; 19 great great nieces and nephews; and 3 great great great nieces and nephews; and special family friends Chuck & Lynn Hoffman and their family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Virginia L. Monroe and a niece Theresa A. O'Connor.
