John Joseph Farley

John Joseph Farley, 82 of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, May 01, 2014 at a local care facility. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. Sunday with the family present from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. There will be a rosary recited by the Third Degree Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at 4:30 P.M. Sunday and a Vigil service at 5:00 P.M. Sunday followed by a Chalice Service by the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus all at the funeral home. John was born September 19, 1931 on the family farm near Alcester, SD; he was the son of James and Mary (Henle) Farley. John grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. He joined the U.S. Air Force and was a flight engineer/ pilot during the Korean War. John married Shirley A. Bruining June 7, 1960 in Sioux Falls, SD. John was a construction foreman and worked on the interstate highway system until 1966 when he went to work for John Deere until his retirement. John was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and had held several offices in the 3rd Degree and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion. He enjoyed doing community service for the Church and various organizations. Survivors include his wife Shirley of Sioux City; 4 children: Larry Farley (Kelle) of South Sioux City, NE, Patricia Tibboel (Clark) of Sioux City, MaryAnn Farley of Sioux City, Mike Farley (Paula) of Omaha, NE; 6 grandchildren: Stephanie Farley, David Farley, Davis Farley, Cooper Farley, Ian Tibboel (Whitney) and Jenica Hickey (Ben); 2 great grandchildren: Jamison Farley and Izabel Farley. John was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Lawrence and Peter, 6 sisters: Edna and Charlotte Farley, Sister Madeline Farley, Gertrude, Mildred and Lorraine Farley. Special Thanks to the staff of Bickford Cottages, Hospice of Siouxland and Touchtone Living Center In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools or the Big Sioux Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
