Alvina N. Barbee, 92, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at a local care facility. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, May 2, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. Alvina was born the daughter of Bernard and Christina (Wingert) Smith on January 8, 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa. She moved to Barnett, Missouri at age seven and then back to Sioux City in 1946. She married Jiles Barbee on October 19, 1940 in Jefferson City, Missouri. Alvina was a homemaker for most of her life. She retired from housekeeping at Mercy Medical Center after 12 years. She enjoyed embroidering, flowers, babies, cooking, and baking. She liked spending time with her grandchildren. Alvina is survived by three sons, Jiles "Sonny" Barbee of Sioux City, William (Julie) Barbee of Sioux City, and Robert Barbee of Temple, Texas; five daughters, Rose Ann (Gerald) Mayo of Sioux City, Marie (Kelton) Schneider of Temple, Texas, Marion (Richard) Brouillette of Elgin, Illinois, Marjie Burke of Sioux City, and Martha Moore of Sioux City; one brother, John Smith of Hudson, South Dakota; 31 grandchildren; 67 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; one daughter-in-law, Kristi Barbee of Sioux City; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Smith of Sioux City and Frances Smith of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jiles; two sons, Ricky and Gary; one daughter, Beverly; five brothers, Mancel, Dennis, Darius, Burnice, and Roy; two sisters, Christina and Darlene; and one grandson, Rodney.
