Russell Snyder, 86, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at a Sioux City Hospital. Per his wishes, his body will be cremated and the family will be having a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014 with Neil Peck officiating at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Masonic services by North Riverside Lodge #662 followed by Military Honors by the U.S. Navy all at the funeral home. Burial of his cremains will be at a later date in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Russell was born on May 18, 1927 in Kansas City, KS to William Henry and Ida P. (Oviatt) Snyder. He served his country in the U.S Navy during World War II serving in the Pacific. He was united in marriage to Bertha Boston on August 3, 1944 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He worked as a truck driver for Sioux Transportation. One of Russell's finer moments was when he earned his GED at age 54. Russell enjoyed being around and working with people. He was very proud to be the driver of the Potentate Masonic Bell for parades. He was a past Masonic Lodge Master of the North Riverside Masonic Lodge #662, American Legion of Elk Point, SD, Wrecking Crew for the Abu Bker Shrine Temple, SAHIBS, Eastern Star and was very involved with numerous masonic activities. He is survived by his wife Bertha Snyder of Sioux City; 6 children Diane Clemens of Omaha, NE; Linda (Douglas) Talbott of Elk Point, SD; Russell G. (Jeri) Snyder of Sioux City; Patrick W. (Eileen) of Fort Smith, AK; Earl D. (Kathy) of Sioux City; Barry J. (Jane) Snyder of LeMars, IA; 20 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Kenneth "Skip" (Karen) Snyder of Sioux City and Ronald (Fran) Snyder of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 daughters Peggy and Kathleen, a brother Glenn and 2 sisters Violet and Francis.
