Shirley J. DeVries, 86 of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her family. Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Roger Madden will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Thursday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Thursday all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Shirley was born January 17, 1928 in Watertown, SD; she was the daughter of William and Lucile (Rose) Forster. Her family moved to Sioux City as a child and Shirley graduated from Central High School. She married Paul DeVries April 23, 1948 in Las Vegas, NV, he died in October of 1996. Shirley worked for the hospitals in Sioux City for several years before going to work at the Indian Hills Care Center. She worked at the Indian Hills Care Center 21 years, retiring in 1996. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing, reading and doing crafts. Survivors include her 4 children: Paula DeVries, Cheryl Girard (Maurice), Lucile DeVries and Paul DeVries all of Sioux City; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who were loved by Shirley. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul and 2 brothers Robert and George.
