Charles E. Haafke

Charles E. Haafke, 63, of Bronson passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014, at his residence. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Avenue, in Sioux City, with Patricia Roberts officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Charles Edward Haafke was born on Feb. 25, 1951, in Sioux City, to Dorothy and Edward Haafke. He attended Sergeant Bluff Community Schools. He attended Iowa State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in animal sciences in May 1973. Charles was a longtime resident of Bronson. He farmed in the Bronson area. He also worked at MCI and Stream. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity. He was an avid Iowa State Cyclone football and basketball fan. He was a supporter of Lawton-Bronson School. He was a proud Republican and collected stamps and coins. He also enjoyed movies. Survivors include his daughters, Erin Haafke of Saxapahaw, NC, Erica Metzger and her husband, Eric, and their son, Calvin, of Urbandale, IA, and Alexandria Haafke of Bronson; a son, Henri Haafke of Bronson; sisters, Karen Jacobs of Ridgeland, MS, and Barbara Haafke of Foxboro, MA; nephews, Preston Jacobs of Washington, D.C., and Parker Jacobs of Starkville, MS; and his significant other, Teresa Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son, Bryce Charles Haafke.
