DAKOTA DUNES, SD | Mary Ann Propeck, 81, of Dakota Dunes, SD died Tuesday, Apr. 22, 2014 at Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Apr. 25, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Moville, IA. Visitation with the family present will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Mary Ann was born Oct. 20, 1932 in Sioux City the daughter of Anthony "A.J." and Edna (Johnson) Schneiders. She grew up in Sioux City where she graduated from Bishop Heelan High School. On Feb. 11, 1951 she married her high school sweetheart, John C. Propeck in Sioux City. Together they raised three children, Gary, Johnette and Ron. Mary Ann worked for the Department of Social Services in the early 1970's. John and Mary Ann moved to Minnesota where they owned and operated Crescent Beach Resort in Osakis for 10 years, Northward Ho Resort in Park Rapids then to Balsam Beach Resort in Bemidji, where they had the help of Ron and Karen Propeck. The couple moved to Moville, IA in the year 2000. Mary Ann worked at the Iowa Welcome Center in Sgt. Bluff. They moved to Dakota Dunes about a year ago. Mary Ann enjoyed playing bingo, keno and cards. She loved talking to her grandchildren and she loved her yellow lab, Harvey. Survivors include her husband, John; 3 children and their spouses, Gary and Pam Propeck of Westminster, CO, Johnette and Kelly Kobes of Sioux City and Ron and Karen Propeck of Bemidji, MN; 10 grandchildren, Adam (Allie) Propeck, Brandon Kobes, Abbie Propeck, Christopher (Meghan) Kobes, Casey (Aaron) Nus, Kadi (Dana) Baldridge, Elizabeth Propeck, Leah Kobes, Seth (Hannah) Propeck and Callie Propeck; 11 great grandchildren, Eli, Ella, Lillian, Violet, Ava, Anderson, Levi, Isaac, Zander, Hunter and Skylar. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Schneiders, her loving Aunt Mary M. Johnson and Uncle Charles A. Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Memorials may be made in her name to Autism Speaks or to GiGi's Playhouse in Des Moines.
