Dean A. Cooke, 61 of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at the Trondjehm Lutheran Church Cemetery in Volin, SD. Dean was born July 19, 1952 in Sibley, IA; he was the son of Harry and Mae (Billings) Cooke. He was raised by his foster parents, LeRoy and Wanda Hintz. Dean grew up in Sibley, attended schools in Sibley, Melvin and Holly Springs. He graduated from Central High School in 1972. Dean was a certified welder and worked on and off for 30 years for Load King in Elk Point, SD. He was employed at Nutra-Flo Company and was credited with saving two of his co-workers after an explosion there. He also owned and operated Cooke Construction for many years. Dean loved to camp, fish and play Bingo. He also liked to work on old cars. Dean is survived by his longtime companion, Diane Trizila of Sioux City; 4 sons: Troy Cooke of Sioux City, Jeremy Cooke of San Francisco, CA, Adam Cooke (Autumn) of Kingsley, IA, Casey Cooke (Amber) of Kingsley, IA; 2 sisters: Gwen Klatt (John) of Melvin, IA, Sandra Wohlert of Athens, GA; a brother: Gene Cooke (Deb) of Volin, SD; 3 foster brothers and sisters: Don Hintz of Moville, IA, Dave Hintz of Sioux City, LeAnn Schummel (Dave) of Moville, IA; Diane's children: Terry Trizlia (Jeanne) of Sioux City, Trudy Huisman (Marty) of Sioux City; 6 grandchildren and 6 of Diane's grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dale; a nephew Bob and a niece Bonnie.
