Cecilia M. Pierre, 86 of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Rev. Steven McLoud will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Thursday with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. and a Rosary recited at 6:00 P.M. Cecilia was born June 15, 1927 in Sioux City; she was the daughter of John and Mary (Homa) Tokarczyk. Cecilia grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School and then Briar Cliff College. While Cecilia attended college, she also worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Cecilia married Raymond Pierre June 5, 1960 in Sioux City. He passed away on Aug. 31, 2011. She was an elementary education teacher for 30 years and had taught at Lincoln, Smith, Sunnyside, and East Middle Schools. She was a member of the Church of the Nativity. Ceil enjoyed golfing in the Green Valley and Floyd Golf Leagues. She also enjoyed playing Bingo. Ceil and Ray enjoyed many trips to Florida during their retirement where Ceil spent many hours hunting for shells along the beach. Survivors include her two daughters: Sandi Cannon (Bob) of Sioux City, Kathy Sandoz (Dave) of Sergeant Bluff; her brother: Louis Tokar of Tempe, AZ, her sister: Helen Lambert (Ken) of New Hope, MN; 2 sisters -in- law: Darlene Stusse and Marcele Newman both of Sioux City; 5 grandchildren: Robert, Chris and Cassandra Cannon, Melissa and Jacob Sandoz Ceil was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ray. Pallbearers will be Dave and Jacob Sandoz, Bob, Robert, and Chris Cannon.
