SIOUX CITY | Vance J. Pflanz, the founder, former owner and CEO of Pflanz Electronics in Sioux City, IA died Thursday, Mar. 27, 2014 at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center after a short illness. He was 75. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Belden Cemetery, Belden, NE. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Vance was born June 17, 1938 in Belden, NE the son of Fred and Gladys (Seyl) Pflanz. He grew up on the family farm near Belden and graduated from Belden High School. He entered the electronics business in 1958 as a TV technician and gravitated to the retail side of the industry when he became owner of Team Electronics in 1968. He opened the current facility at 415 Pavonia St., in 1978. Pflanz was an icon in the electronics industry and was known to attract customers from Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. His lifelong passion was his work. Vance helped found, ProSource, a major merchandising group, and formerly led as its board chairman. He also belonged to other organizations and held different offices within the independently owned electronics industry. Vance was a member of the Breakfast Sertoma Club. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Mona and Brian Hodgins of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Scott and Mindy Pflanz of Sioux City; and 5 grandchildren, Ashley Hodgins and her fiancé, Eric Larson, Brady Hodgins, Rachel Hodgins, Colin Pflanz and Carly Pflanz. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Neil Pflanz and a sister, Mildred Caneco.
