Dick W. Winkel, 60, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at a local hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences can be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Dick, the son of David and Carole (Block) Winkel, was born on Aug. 11, 1953, in Sioux City. He graduated from Heelan High School with the class of 1971. Dick married Judy Johnson on Jan. 12, 1980, in Sioux City. In 1985, they moved to Kansas City, where they lived until moving back to Sioux City in 2010 when Dick became ill. He worked as an operating engineer for the union of operating engineers for 38 years until his retirement. Dick loved his grandchildren. They were the most important thing in his life. He also enjoyed moto-cross racing, stock car racing, golfing, and all of the Kansas sports teams. Dick is survived by his wife, Judy Winkel of Sioux City; two daughters, Katie Winkel of Sioux City and her fiance, Ladell Bilberry, and Karena (Darrel) Lawson of Kansas City, Kan.; three grandchildren, Curtis, Kaliena, and Christian; his mother, Carole Winkel of Sioux City; four brothers, David Winkel of Sioux City, Daniel (Carolyn) Winkel of Omaha, Steven (Nancy) Winkel of Overland Park, Kan., and Mark (Dawn) Winkel of Sioux City; four sisters, Dianne Winkel of Sioux City, Ellen (Toli) Polewik of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Carole Anne (Dave) Harmon of Cairo, Neb., and Susan (Doug) Boden of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, David; and one sister-in-law, Paula.
