Norma Jean Zarkos, 81 of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Reverend Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be on Wednesday, March 19th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Norma Jean was born on March 3, 1933 in Sanborn, Iowa to Clarence and Ella (Ahrweiler) Fowler. She received her Associates Degree at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines in Bookkeeping. Norma Jean married Nicholas "Nick" E. Zarkos on June 27, 1954 in Des Moines, Iowa. Norma worked in the financial sector as a bookkeeper, enjoyed keeping books, working with numbers, and often considered how wonderful it would have been to go on to obtain her accounting degree. She enjoyed playing bridge at the Siouxland Duplicate Bridge Club, walking, collecting figurines, collecting dishes, reading, and dining out. Norma Jean was an animal lover, and enjoyed her dogs. Norma Jean is survived by her husband Nick of Sergeant Bluff, IA; children Pam Petersen and her husband Arlan of Bancroft, NE and Rick Zarkos and his wife Christine of Red Oak, IA; grandson Brad Petersen and his wife Shay of Bancroft, NE; and sisters Nadine Goodhue and her husband Jim of Carlisle, IA and Patricia Haddad of Breinigsville, PA. Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law Ernie Haddad.
