Michael D. "Mike" Smith, 61, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, in his home following a lifelong battle with depression. Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be Monday, March 17, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M. with a prayer service at 7 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. Michael was born the son of Philip and Mary (Armstrong) Smith on October 2, 1952. A native of Galesburg, Illinois, Mike proudly served in the United States Marine Corp from 1972-1975 and graduated from of Illinois State University in 1977. A friend of Bill W. for over twenty years, Mike dedicated his life to the service, faith, and love of all who crossed his path. Mike made his home in Sioux City and his church First Presbyterian, an instant spiritual oasis, for 32 years. An embodiment of kindness and high moral character, Mike's sharp wit, coy smile, and humor will be forever cherished. He is lovingly survived by his children Staci Lynn (Dan) Moore and Chad Michael Smith both of Sioux City; two brothers, Phil Smith and Joe (Teresa) Smith; three sisters, Philis Bramlett, Mary (Dave) Walters, and Ellie Blunt all of Galesburg, Illinois; one grandson, Jackson; and special buddy Lance. He was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Nash and Jacey.
