Carolyn Ella Brandt Cobb, 71 of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 at a Sioux City hospital. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Visitation will be Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 5 till 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 till 8 p.m. and prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. Carolyn Ella Brandt Cobb, was born August 16, 1942 in Bottineau, ND the daughter of Clarence and Evelyn (Roland) Larson. She went to rural school through the eighth grade. She graduated from Bottineau High School in 1960. She went to college at Minot State College and the Trinity School of Nursing, both in Minot, ND. She graduated in 1963 with a RN degree and worked in nursing in surgery and ob. She had received special training in neonatal and intensive care nursing at UNO. She managed the neonatal unit from 1974-1987 at St. Luke's Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. She was a board member of the March of Dimes and moved to Phoenix in 1987 and worked in various nursing capacities. She received her Masters of Arts in Psychology from California Coast University. She married Tom Brandt August 3, 1963 in Bottineau, ND at First Lutheran Church. Tom died from pancreatic cancer March 4, 1978 at the age of 34. Carolyn married Tom Cobb March 29, 1990 in Sioux City, IA Mr. Cobb also died of pancreatic cancer March 24, 2001. In her free time she enjoyed painting, drawing, playing piano and just had taken up tap dancing. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. Carolyn was a member of the Sons of Norway and was an active member and board member with the FLCW and Mary Circle at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Carolyn is survived by her four children Julie and Brian Thiele of Sioux City and their children; Sarah and James Adams, Justin and Jacob; Katie and Craig Shaw of Roseland, NE and their children; Austin, Alex and Ella; William and Annette Brandt of Sioux City and their children; Amanda and Jonah; Robert and Rebecca Brandt of Suwanee GA. and their children; Joshua, Jessica and Joseph. She was preceded in death by her parents, and both husbands, one brother; Jerry Larson and her cat Rufus. Memorial may be directed to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center and First Lutheran Church.
