Leona Marie Weyhrich Schomberg, 88, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Worship will be held Thursday, March 6th, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 4400 Central St., Sioux City. Visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, March 5th, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., Sioux City. with graveside service to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6605 Morningside Ave., Sioux City. Born November 7, 1925 in Randolph, Nebraska, she was the daughter of the late Edward Weyhrich and Anna Schuttler Weyhrich. Leona and her husband Don both attended a rural one-room schoolhouse and later graduated from McLean High School in Nebraska. After their wedding they moved to Sioux City and were married for 56 years. Leona retired from American Popcorn Company after twenty years of service. Leona and her husband loved to square dance, were avid boaters and water skiers, and members of Tri-State Coachmen RV Camping Club. Leona was a gifted seamstress, and also loved to croquet, knit, quilt, and cross stitch. She belonged to the West Side Crafters Club and the Calvary Church World Relief Quilters. Leona was a faithful member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She is survived by her daughters Sandra Schomberg and Patricia Schomberg Johnson of Sioux City; her granddaughters Jessica Korth of Omaha, NE, Mandy Freese and April Schomberg of Sioux City; her great grandchildren Fletcher, Chloe and Lillian Freese of Sioux City and Jackson Korth of Omaha, NE; her twin sister Leola Villnow of Colorado Springs, CO; her sisters Francis Brummel and Marilyn Hobbs of Ewing, NE; her brother David Weyhrich of Omaha, NE; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Edward Schomberg; her infant son Donald Edward Schomberg Jr.; her baby sister Ruth Ann Weyhrich; her sisters Marjorie Swanda and Mae Broda; and her brother Lloyd Weyhrich. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Siouxland.
