Burton H. Handke, 63 of Bronson, IA. passed away on Friday, February 21, 2014 at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, IA. Rev. Cyndy Ripperger will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday all at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burton was born May 2, 1950 in Sioux City; he was the son of Melvin and Deloris (Van Norman) Handke. He graduated from Lawton-Bronson High School in 1969 and then joined the U.S. Air Force. He was honorable discharged after 6 years of service. He returned to Bronson and has been a residence there ever since. Burton married Pamela Skidmore April 9, 1977. He was very close to his sons, Corey and Matthew and enjoyed their visits, especially when his grandchildren came along. Burton was a proud member of the Teamsters Union and the Bronson Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Bronson Ambulance Squad . He retired after 33 years from Prince Manufacturing. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, trapping and bowling in his younger days. He was also a frequent visitor to the Little Sioux River and over the years caught more than his share of catfish. Survivors include his wife Pamela of Bronson, IA; 2 sons: Corey Handke and his wife Marie of Sioux City, Matthew Handke and his wife Jodi of Bronson, IA; his mother: Deloris Handke of Lawton, IA; 2 brothers: Rickey (Linda) Handke of Maple Grove, MN, Randy (Rena) Handke of Evansville, IN; 3 sisters: Kathy (Raymond) Smith of Dixon, MO, Patricia Oehlerking of Lawton, IA, Julia (Marvin) Castle of Hornick, IA; 2 grandchildren: Caleb and Sierra Burton was preceded in death by his father: Melvin and a brother in law: William Oehlerking and a sister in law: Shelly Petit.
