Robert A. "Bob" Jackson, 73 of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Sunrise Retirement Community after a short illness. Services will be at 10:00 A. M. Monday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church. Rev. Lucas Rice will officiate. Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Sunday and there will be a Trisagion Service at 7:00 P.M. Sunday all at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Bob was born September 21, 1940 in Sioux City; he was the son of William R. and Mary (Antonovich) Jackson, Sr. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. Bob graduated from East High School and then served in the Army National Guard. He was married for a short time and to this union a son James Gregory was born. Bob was a foreman at Swift and Co for over for 15 years and also was a bartender at various establishments in Sioux City and South Sioux City over the years. He was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church. He enjoyed 50's, 60's and 70's music and watching old movies with movie stars like John Wayne. He was also an avid sports fan. Bob loved to dance and he was known as "Bobby Gene, the dancing machine". Bob was especially proud of his 30 years of sobriety. Survivors include his sister: Jackie Jackson and her husband Dave Higby of Dunedin, FL; his brother: James "J J" Jackson and his wife Sabra of Sioux City; nieces: Julie Kinnaman, Chris Young, Jennifer, Jessica and Shaylee Jackson; nephews: Jeff, Tim and Tony Jackson, and Evan Young; and numerous cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Jeanie Knutson, a brother: William R. Jackson, Jr and his wife Joan, his aunt: Nina Baker and an Uncle Alex Antonovich. Pallbearers will be Tim, Tony and Jeff Jackson, Mark, Richard and Michael Antonovich and Robert Young. The family would like to thank Hospice of Siouxland, the staff in the ICU and Oncology Units at Mercy Medical Center, and the staff at Sunrise for the excellent care they gave to Bob. A special thanks to Bob's Shire Community for their caring support and friendship.
