John "Jack" Stephen Connolly

John "Jack" Stephen Connolly, 85 of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at his residence. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Michael Erpelding as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 4th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Masonic Service beginning on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Jack was born on August 7, 1928 in Sioux City to Aloysious V. and Edna M. (Martus) Connolly and was baptized on August 19th at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Elk Point, South Dakota. He was raised in Jefferson, South Dakota and graduated from Trinity High School with the Class of 1945. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Navy for two years during World War II as a fireman first class aboard the U.S.S. Cumberland Sound and the U.S.S. Boxer. Jack married JoAnn Wilton in 1954, to which union three children were born: David, Teresa, and Kathleen. Jack worked as an stationery engineer and maintenance mechanic at St. Vincent Hospital, Roberts Dairy, Terra Chemical, St. Lukes Hospital, and Interbake Foods. He continued to work on a part-time basis after his retirement at the Sioux City Auditorium for several years. On January 18, 1992, Jack married Starlette Lecato in Sioux City. He had a passion for Corvettes and motor homes which he was able to acquire and enjoy with his wife Star after retirement, a reward for a long career of hard work. Jack was a proud member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, a member of Masonic Lodge of North Riverside #662, a member of Sioux City Consistory, and a member of American Legion Post 724. He was very proud of his 39 years of sobriety as a member of AA and NA. Jack also enjoyed his membership to the South Sioux City Eagles, the Calix Society, and the Retired Teamsters. Jack is survived by his wife Starlette of Sioux City; children David J. (Barb) Connolly, Teresa M. Gill, and Kathleen A. (Frank) Verdoorn; step-children Valerie Lockwood, Susan (Guy) Richardson, Larry (Chris) Trudeau, and Wendy (Allen) Eskelin; sister Aloise E. Ferris; grandchildren Jacob, Joseph, and Benjamin Verdoorn, Tony and Catie Connolly; step-grandchildren Tiffiny Sorenson, Shauna Kramer, and Crystal Richardson; four step-great-grandchildren Christopher, Kory, Nicholas, and Leah; and three great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother David M. Connolly, and brother-in-law Keith Ferris.
