George Edward Gartner, 74, of Hornick, IA went home to our Lord on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, IA. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 1st, 2014 at Washington Heights Chapel with Reverend Dan Speichinger officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, January 31st, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. George was born on October 13th, 1939 in Hartington, Nebraska the son of George and Mildred (Lofgren) Gartner. He went to country school in Hartington. He married Deanna Arlene Dawdy on August 13th, 1962 in Pipestone, Minnesota and to this union a daughter Merinda Sue was born on May 23rd, 1973. Mindy passed away in September of 1995. The couple made their home in Sioux City until moving to Hornick, IA. George's love of the road made him a truck driver which earned him safe driving awards. He drove truck until his retirement in 2011 after suffering a stroke. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Deanna of Hornick, IA; a granddaughter Kaylie Carda of Ames, IA; a "daughter" Dawn (Tom) Beaulieu of Hinton, IA; sister Frieda Brown of Norfolk, NE; brother Glen Gartner of Arizona; sisters in law: Donna (Merlin) Klemme of Akron, IA, Diane Dawdy of Little Sioux, IA, Dixie (Steve) Carda of Las Cruses, NM, Deb (Ed) Hyer of LeMars, IA, Darlene Hast of Whiting, IA, Lori (Willard) Dahl of Onawa, IA, Darla Miester of Sgt. Bluff, IA, Denise (Joel) Kubik of Sioux City; brothers in law: Dennis (Terri) Dawdy of Onawa, IA, Donald Dawdy of Springfield, IL, and Doug (Kathy) Dawdy of Onawa, IA; and several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his daughter Merinda Carda, his parents, father in law Melvin Dawdy, mother in law June Dawdy, a brother Nick Gartner, and two brother in laws Daniel Dawdy Sr. and Dean Dawdy. Pallbearers will be Shaune Beaulieu, Nick Beaulieu, Lowell Brown, Marcell Hyer, Wayne Brown, and Cecil Schmitz, Larry Carda, and Tom Beaulieu.
