Dennis D. Dow

February 14, 1931 — January 21, 2014

Dennis D. Dow, 82 of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at a Sioux City hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M. Monday in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Dennis was born February 14, 1931 in Sioux City; he was the son of Howard and Agnes (Corcoran) Dow. He completed his elementary education at St. Boniface Grade School and continued to Trinity High School and Morningside College. Dennis worked for many years at Sioux City Inspection Agency and finally at Prodenco. Everywhere, he built relationships and was well known for recognizing people by name. Dennis enjoyed traveling and had many "road trip" adventures on his own mini-vacations. He and his twin brother, Derrell, shared a life-long continuing interest in literature, films and fine arts. Uppermost in Dennis' heart and mind was a vibrant faith. As long as he was able, he attended daily Mass and nourished a deep devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Dennis translated his faith into action in many ways. Some of the most noteworthy were: Cursillo and subsequent renewal meetings, Life in the Spirit Seminars and its attendant prayer group, St. Boniface Choir and lector ministry, membership in the Knights of Columbus and weekly Eucharistic Adoration at Trinity Heights. Dennis served his parish as a pastoral council member and was a faithful sponsor for RCIA candidates preparing to join the Catholic Church and also for Confirmation candidates. The pro-life cause also claimed Dennis' dedication. He attended regular prayer services and meetings and, for many years, coordinated the silent prayer witness of Life Chain held each October along Hamilton Blvd. Dennis is remembered in love and prayer by his twin brother, Derrell who resides at Holy Spirit Retirement Home, by several cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends and acquaintances. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial has been established in Dennis's name.
