Donna Mae (Fruity) Fruechtenicht, 85, of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church in the Dakota Dunes with Father Robert Lacey officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Fruity was born on March 14, 1928 in Sioux City to George T. and Anna (Rasmussen) Murtha. She graduated from Central High School where she was a cheerleader and a member of the student council. She was united in marriage to John Fruechtenicht on January 13, 1949 in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2007 in Sioux City. She worked for 39 years as a Telephone Operator for North Western Bell. Fruity enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching football, playing cards, and attending Broadway shows. She was an avid golfer and had achieved many accomplishments in the sport and was a member of the women's club. She also had a large collection of hats and loved to wear them. She was a longtime member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. Fruity is survived by her daughter-in-law Carol Fruechtenicht of Jefferson, SD; 3 grandchildren Beau (Anita) Fruechtenicht of Omaha, NE; Clint Fruechtenicht and special friend Samantha Binnebose of Lincoln, NE; and Sabrina Fruechtenicht and special friend Andrew Comeaux of Denver, CO; a sister Delores Smith and husband Bob Irwin of Sioux City and another sister-in-law Betty Murtha of Sioux City; a special niece and goddaughter Lynn Bormann of Moville, IA; and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Samuel Fruechtenicht, brothers Harold and Robert Murtha and a sister Carmel.
