LaVon Holtkamp

LaVon Holtkamp, 87 of Henderson NV and formerly of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at a Henderson Hospital after a short illness. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Rev. Kenny Hsu will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden, IA. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. LaVon was born January 10, 1926 in Ireton, IA; she was the daughter of William and Sadie (Hoogland) Torwelle. She grew up in the Ireton area and married Wendell Holtkamp May 15, 1946 in Hawarden. LaVon and Wendell farmed in the Hawarden area for many years. They came to Sioux City and LaVon worked for Johnson Biscuit (now Interbake Foods) for over 35 years. LaVon was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church while living in Sioux City. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going on family vacations and watching movies. LaVon is survived by 4 daughters: Linda Ferguson and her husband Doug of Carlsbad, CA, Paula McClurkin and her husband John of Henderson, NV, Judy Holtkamp of Boise, ID, Lisa Bennett and her husband Jim of Boise, ID; 5 grandchildren: Melissa Ferguson, Eric McClurkin, Tara McClurkin, Damian Bennett and Ashley Bennett. Lavon is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother: Bill Torwelle, 2 sisters: Margaret Schimming and Geri Hartman
