Florence Jane Taylor Davis, who was the second daughter born to Walter Louis Taylor and Helen Neeley Taylor, on May 12, 1924, in Seneca, Kan. "Jane" was the name she would always be called. Her formative years were spent in Sioux City after her family moved. She graduated from Central High School. She met and married Louis Whitlock and one daughter, Saundra Kay, was born of that union. After World War II, her high school sweetheart returned from the war and she and Arnold R. Davis Jr. married and from that union three children were born, Arnetta Francine, Naomi Michelle and Brett Elliott. Jane retired from the Goodwill as manager of productions. Her prior employment included Toy National Bank and Younkers Beauty Salon, where she was a receptionist. Because of her passion for horses, she loved watching the Clydesdale horses that pulled the Budweiser wagon. She would tell you what kind of horse would be in any stable and she could tell you how many hands high the horse was to denote its height. Jane loved flowers and her favorites were roses and hydrangeas. She was an excellent cook and the family loved her fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, mustard greens, hot water cornbread, and her delicious lemon meringue pie. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Saundra Hayes of Sioux City, Arnetta (Orvis) Carpenter of Highland, Calif., and Naomi Davis of Carroll, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Lori, Andria, Terrance, Valerie, Todd, Damon, Nicholas, Trina and Jeniece; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a host of family and friends; and her church family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; her son, Brett; and her older, sister, Lois. The life she led leaves a rich legacy and will be missed by all.
