Michael A. Casotti, 61 of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Touchstone Living Center due to Alzheimers. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Reverend James Travis officiating. Burial will follow at Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15th at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Michael was born on May 3, 1952 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa to Alfred B. and Doris (Raisbeck) Casotti. He received his education in Ft. Dodge, including two years at Iowa Central College before receiving his Bachelors Degree at the University of Northern Iowa. Michael married Carol Theiss on October 14, 1972 in Ft. Dodge before the couple relocated to Sioux City, where Michael began his near 30 year career at Interbake Foods as their Controller. Michael retired due to health issues in 2006. He was a proud Grandpa whose eyes lit up whenever the grandchildren were around. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, watching football and basketball, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, and playing cards. Michael was a proud member of Calvary Lutheran Church where he was an elder, an usher, and former Sunday school teacher. He was an avid bird watcher and a very committed blood donor up until his medicine kept him from being eligible to donate. Michael is survived by his wife Carol of Sioux City; sons John Casotti and his wife Kristin and their children Carter and Madelyn and Luke Casotti and his wife Stephanie and their children Sophia and Benjamin, all of Sioux City; mother Doris Casotti of Sioux City; brother Steven Casotti and his wife Beth of Atlanta, Georgia; sister Joni Perera and her husband Ken of Sioux City; mother-in-law Dorothy Theiss of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; sister-in-law Jan Andrews and her husband Ken of Algona, Iowa; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his father, brother Alan Casotti, sister-in-law Tammy Casotti, and father-in-law Robert Theiss. Pallbearers will be Mike Muecke, Jim Newell, Craig Merry, Denny Billiet, Jeff Horst, and Bill Burrows. Memorials will be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or Calvary Lutheran Church.
