Marlin F. Noble, 75, of Sioux City, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 6, 2014 at a Sioux City Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at St. James United Methodist Church with Rev. Ryan Christenson officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the 185th Air Refueling Wing Honor Guard at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Marlin was born on November 13, 1938 in Washta, IA to Harley B. and Helen A. (Gross) Noble. Marlin attended school in Galva through 4th grade, until the death of his father. His mother then moved the family to Kingsley where he later graduated from high school in 1956. As a young man he attended and was baptized in the Church of the Brethren. He attended Sioux Empire College in Hawarden, IA earning an Associates Degree. He joined the 174th Air Guard unit in Sioux City. This enlistment became his fulltime career for 38 years. He attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He saw active duty in Viet Nam for 1 year and traveled to many other countries throughout his career. He was united in marriage to Gale Page on May 31, 1959 in Kingsley, Iowa. To this union 2 children were born, David and Beth. They made their home in Sioux City for the 54 years of their marriage. Marlin was a man of many talents, he enjoyed wood working projects, hunting, fishing and golfing (he was very proud of the fact that he got a hole in one). He was a devoted family man and never too busy to lend a hand to friends. Also, during his retirement he enjoyed driving for Enterprise Rent-a-Car and helping his brother-in-law with his farming. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church offering his talents and abilities as needs would arise. He was also a member of the American Legion. Marlin is survived by his wife Gale Noble of Sioux City; son David Noble of Sioux City; grandson Shawn Lyons of Sioux City; granddaughter Jessica Noble-Henry of Storm Lake, IA; 5 great-grandchildren; sister Joyce (Floyd) Pfaffle of Kingsley, IA; sisters-in-law Wanda (Joe) Linn of Correctionville; and Mary Brown of Sioux City; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, daughter Beth; 2 step-fathers Bill Puttman and Howard Page; and an uncle Vernon Gross, with whom he had a special bond.
