James "Jim" R. Kinsella

June 3, 1939 — January 3, 2014

James R. Kinsella, 74 of Sioux City, died on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by family. He had fought a five year battle with Acute Leukemia. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date. With no formal services to take place now, James would like people to take a moment and remember his ready smile, laughter and joking. Meyer Brother Colonial Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com James was born on June 3, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Richard C. and Lottie (King) Kinsella. He was educated in Minneapolis and served as a Military Policeman with the Minnesota National Guard. On June 11, 1960, James was united in marriage to Alda "Bunny" Anderson in Minneapolis. To this union, two daughters were born, Lisa and Holly. While living in Sioux City, James worked for Sioux Tools for 11 years and Mercy Medical Center as security for 24 years before his retirement in 2006. He coached girl's softball for 9 years and enjoyed photography, specifically taking photos of the flowers Alda grew. James collected movies and an avid football fan of his beloved Vikings. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was a history buff, especially of the Civil War and of WWII. James was always ready to help his neighbors and following his retirement, was active at the Siouxland Center for Active Generations. James is survived by his wife Alda of Sioux City; daughters Lisa (Greg) Rothman of Omaha and Holly Comstock of Sioux City; grandchildren Erin and Caitlin Rothman of Omaha, Michael Comstock in Japan, Nicholas Comstock in Guam, Marie and Nathan Comstock of Sioux City; brother-in-law Daniel (Glenda) Anderson of Billings, Montana; step-sisters Diana (Gerald) Morgan and Barbara (Art) Bingham of Minneapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, and two infant sons.
