SIOUX CITY | Delores J. Strong, 78, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at a local hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Michael Ybarra officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Delores was born on July 9, 1935, in Lawton, Iowa, the daughter of Russell W. and Susie E. (Moyse) Horton. She graduated from Bronson High School, then moved to Sioux City. On Nov. 16, 1956, she married Rolland L. Strong in Sioux City. The couple lived in France from 1957 to 1959, while her husband was serving in the U.S. Army. Her employment in earlier years included the Starlight Room and Green Gables Restaurant. She also worked in the tax office at the Woodbury County Courthouse and for Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau Insurance. Delores was a longtime member of Morningside Assembly of God, where she taught Bible study and youth group. Delores lived for her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking care of them. She also liked arranging flowers. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Rolland; two sons and their wives, Randy and Becky Strong of Jefferson, S.D., and Mark and Micki Strong of Sergeant Bluff; four grandchildren, Adam Strong, Whitney Strong, Emily Strong, and Tyler Strong; two sisters, Bernice Spink of Sioux City, and Phyllis Davis of Olathe, Kan.; two sisters-in-law, Arline Horton of Sac City, Iowa, and Marge Horton of Sioux City; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mabel Weeks; two brothers, Cliff Horton and Eldon Horton; and three brothers-in-law, Burt Weeks, Lloyd Davis and Art Spink.
