James E. Hrdy, 79, of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at a Sioux City Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. Johns Lutheran Church with Rev. Gregory Hanneman officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8 P.M. with family present from 6-8 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Jim was born on March 10, 1934 in Walthill, NE to Lester and Ruth (Davis) Hrdy. He graduated from Walthill High School and attended one year of college and one year in the Army League Academy. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Kvidal on November 11, 1961 in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on November 15, 2001 in Sioux City. He worked as a farm equipment salesman for 24 years at FIMCO and 18 years with American Equipment. Jim enjoyed fishing, especially fly fishing, walking and riding his bike, seeking for fine foods, both setting off and watching fireworks, gardening, and watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He will be fondly remembered for his pranks and having fun. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, the Olive Branch Lodge in Walthill, NE, and the Sioux City Scottish Rite of Free Masonry Consistory. He is survived by his two sons, James B. (Christine) Hrdy of Olathe, Kansas; and David E. (Alice) Hrdy of Washington, DC; five grandchildren Melinda, Ann Marie, Courtney, Martha, and James Hrdy; and a sister Caryl (Gary) Rose of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. In lieu of flowers, Jim had a request for everyone, "Do something good for someone else. Pass it on."
