John R. Paulsen, 93, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013. Abiding by his wishes, the body was cremated. There will be no services. Private family graveside services will at a later date in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. John was born on Jan. 7, 1920, in Sioux City, the son of John Paulsen and Myrtle (Desy) Paulsen. He attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High School. He was united in marriage to Gladys Stafford on Nov. 8, 1941, in Ponca, Neb. John served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, during World War II, from 1941 to 1945. John worked for Mahoney Motor Co. and later for Dallas Hall Ford from 1945 to 1969. He then worked for Knoepfler Chevrolet from 1969 until his retirement in 1997. Survivors include his daughter, Chris (John) Zink; his son, John Paulsen Jr.; his grandchildren, Chad, Kerri and Callie; his great-grandchildren, Bailey, Macie, Norah, and Jack; and sisters, Phyllis Grubel, and Doris McKenna. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; sisters, Irene Kessler and Jeanette Grubel; and a brother, Edward Paulsen.
