Eldon E. "Bud" Rose

Eldon E. "Bud" Rose, 91, of Sioux City passed away Friday, December 6, 2013, at a Sioux City care center. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Reverend Alan Wicks officiating. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home. Private family burial services for Eldon and his wife Ellen will be at a later date. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. Eldon was born January 8, 1922, in Battle Creek, IA, the youngest son of Elmer and Lulu (Wilson) Rose. He married Ellen LaVonne Olson on Aug. 26, 1945, in Santa Fe, NM Eldon served in the Military during World War II throughout North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. He was wounded during the last months of the war and returned home in a body cast and spent the next nine months recovering at the VA hospital in Santa Fe, NM During the late 40s and through the early 60s Eldon worked for C. F. Lytle Company, as a diesel mechanic and heavy equipment operator, working on a number of the Sloan Pick Missouri River Basin Dam projects. Through the mid and late 60s Eldon lived on the farm west of Hinton and engaged in many adventures to make a living, these ranged from raising 3000 laying hens and 100,000 turkeys, to fattening cattle and boarding horses. In 1970 he went to work for Hughes Steel erection, doing what he enjoyed the best, running a crane and setting structural iron. Eldon joined the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 234 in 1961 and retired in 1987. After retirement Eldon and Ellen, hosted many family gatherings and enjoyed supporting many of their children's, grandchildren's, great grandchildren's, and great great grandchildren's activities. They enjoyed their many travels together whether it was to Anthon, IA or Honolulu, Hawaii. Eldon was a masterful and humorous story teller and had many risqué colloquialisms that he used while telling his stories. Stories of the depression years, struggles with finding decent work, old cars that he owned, and the places he and Ellen had been, were his favorites. Survivors include three children, Penny (Rose) Redenius & her husband, Ed of South Sioux City, Pamela (Rose) Kroll & her husband, David of Sioux City, and Douglas Rose & his wife, Charla of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren, Nan (Irey) Stettnichs & her husband, Rod, Bill Irey & his wife, Deb, Bob Irey, Jenny (Kroll) Linton & her husband, Mike, Stacey (Kroll) Massarello & her husband, Jack, Kim Rose & Brandon Swift, Janice (Rose) Staber & her husband, Pat, Russell Kroll, Chris Redenius and his wife, Stephanie, Karen (Kroll) Bailey & her husband, Brandon, Beth (Rose) Bondar & her husband, Anton, Chuck Rose & fiancee Stephanie Krier; twenty four great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren, Brother-in-law Charles Olson and his wife Barb, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen, an infant son, parents; Elmer and Lulu, brothers; Vince, Chuck, Leland, Cloyce, and sister Ima,
