William J. Burke

William J. Burke, 84, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, December 05, 2013 at a local hospital. Abiding by his wishes his body has been cremated. There will be a graveside service 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Michael Erpelding officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. William was born the son of John E. and Margaret A. (Williams) Burke on February 21, 1929 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. William married Louise C. Bruno on August 28, 1948 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Louise passed away July 15, 1991. William was a truck driver for several companies. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. He was a ham operator and communicated with people all over the world. William was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. William is survived by three sons, John M. "Mike" Burke of Sioux City, Bob (Lilly) Burke of Texas, and Timothy L. Burke of Sioux City; one daughter, Patricia (Hal) Hartwick of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Brian, Keith, Tammy, Todd, Thomas, Bob, Robin, Brandy, Chris, and Jack; 12 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louise; one brother, Robert; and one sister-in-law, Vera.
