Eugene "Gene" William Parks

Eugene William Parks, 82 of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at his residence. Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Rev. Michael Erpelding will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Church with a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel and online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Eugene was born April 15, 1931 in Sioux City; he was the son of William and Elizabeth (DeWitt) Parks. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1948. Eugene married Phyllis Omer on August 26, 1950 in Sioux City. To this union, seven children were born. A special daughter in law, Barb was later included as number 8 as referred to by Gene. Eugene was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. His many interests included baseball, golfing and volunteer service for bingo at St. Boniface Church. Eugene started his career as a brick mason and also built his family home. He spent most of his life as a government employee working as an urban renewal director in Sioux City and Charles City, IA. He moved to Charles City in 1974 to rebuild the city after a devastation by tornados. He was a community development director in Rochester, MN before returning to Sioux City and working as a property director. He retired from the city on July 29, 1994. Left to honor his memory are his wife Phyllis Parks of Sioux City, a brother: Bert Parks and his wife Shirley of Sioux City. He is survived by his children: Bob Parks of Sioux City, Sheryl (Randy) Stusse of Sioux City, Steve (Barb) Parks of Sioux City, Lisa Millage of Hawarden, IA, Susan (Rick) Rague of Waconia, MN, Tracie (Al) Farmer of Orchard, IA. His legacy lives on in his 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Dick Parks, a son: David Parks, a granddaughter: Alicia, and a great grandson: Zane. Eugene's greatest accomplishments were his loving family and teaching them how to love. He was a wonderful husband, brother, father and grandfather
