Harold Harley Humes

H. Harley Humes, 88, of Sioux City, formerly of Salina, Kan., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Sioux City. Burial will be announced prior to the service in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. Upon graduation from high school, Harley served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Stockham and was honorably discharged at the end of World War II. For many years, Harley worked alongside his parents in Salina, as together they operated Humes Sales and Service. On June 5, 1949, he married Dolores (Vogt) Humes who preceded him in death on July 4, 1979. In 1983, Harley married Jewell Schram of Sioux City. He was a longtime member of Salina Bible Church and served in various capacities. One of his favorite ministries was AWANA, a weekly Bible program for elementary and middle school children. Surviving are four sons and their families, Loren and his wife, Nancy of California, Larry and his wife, Deborah of Texas, Lonnie and his wife, Kathy of Colorado, and Leon of Maryland. From these families, there are nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Richard and his wife, Audrey of Kansas; one sister, Norma Jean Smith and her husband, Delbert of Colorado; as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families. He also is survived by Jewell; stepchildren; and step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Irene Humes; and two sisters, Frances (Humes) Messenger, and Doris (Humes) Bradley.
