Ella Cunningham, 85 of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at a local care facility. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Horkey officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 20th from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. all at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Ella Kief was born March 8, 1928 in Ludvigshaven, Germany. She was raised in war torn Germany by her Grandparents. Shortly after the end of WWII, Ella met the love of her life Charles Cunningham who was in service with the American Army. Their life together began. Ella and Charles came home to Sioux City in 1947. Ella was very proud to be an American citizen. She often said "the United States is the best place in the world". She also loved Sioux City. Ella and Charles were married for 66 years until Charles passed away January 2013. They were parents to four children; grandparents of five, great grandparents of seven. Family dinners were always her favorite. Grandchildren always had an extra toy. Ella was an extremely devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved feeding the wildlife that regularly came to her back door for a cookie. Many of the critters came when called, and brought their new babies each season. The cookie jar was always full. Ella was preceded in death by her family in Germany; husband Charles; daughter Shirley Smith. She is survived by a sister Annalisa of Germany; daughter Nancy Sweeney of Sioux City; sons Steven (Julie) Cunningham, and Michael Cunningham of Sioux City; Grandchildren Jessica Smith, Holly (John) Swanson, Andrew (Holly) White, Heath Cunningham, Jane Cunningham; and Great-grandchildren Tasha and Ronin Smith, Jonas and Jack Swanson, Addison, Teagan, and Reece White.
