George W. Howell

George W. Howell, 89 of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 at a local care facility. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Rev. Ed Ward will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Sunday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial with military graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. George was born July 1, 1924 in Ontario, CA; he was the son of Harry and Vinnie (Cale) Howell. George came to Sioux City as a child and attended Sioux City schools. He graduated from Central High School and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He participated in actions in the South Pacific at Tarawa in the Gilberts Islands, Saipan and Tinian in the Marianas Islands and Okinawa in the Ryukyu Islands from 1942 to 1945. George married Dorla J. Vaul June 2, 1951 in Sioux City; she passed away May 23, 1997 in Sioux City. He worked for the Burlington-Northern Railroad for over 35 years. George enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing and he was a member of the Marine Corps League. Survivors include 3 sons: George Howell, Jr. and his wife Linda of Palmyra, NE, David Howell and his wife Lynnette of Sioux City, Stewart Howell and his wife Brenda of Newcastle, NE; a brother: Ross Howell of Port Angeles, WA; a sister: Dolaris Randolph of East Moline, IL; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dennis Guillaume, Brad Mickey, Mark Benson, Mark Vaul, Allen Vaul and Brandon Johns George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorla, brother Donald and sisters Rosetta and Pearl.
