SIOUX CITY | John L. Beardshear Sr., 77, of Sioux City died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 at a local hospital following complications from surgery. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. John was born Nov. 9, 1935, in Sioux City, the son of Guy and Myrtle (Linn) Beardshear. He married Mary Charlene Pullis. The couple moved to California in 1967 and returned to Sioux City in 1977. John worked for the city of Sioux City in the street division. He later worked for Wilbert Vault Co. He retired from the Woodbury County Courthouse, where he was a custodian. John belonged to the Iowa Army National Guard for six years. John will be remembered for his love of visiting with people. Survivors include a son, John Beardshear Jr. of Sioux City; two sisters, Ellen Morris and Emmaline Sutliff, both of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Harvey and Cleone Beardshear of Prattville, Alabama; a sister-in-law, Joyce Beardshear of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter and her husband, Johnna and Todd Sohlstrom; and a brother, Vernon "Jack" Beardshear. Memorials may be directed to the family.
