Betty Jean (Holtgrew) Watkins, 83, of Phoenix, AZ formerly of Sioux City passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Grace Hill Ranch in Phoenix, AZ. Funeral services will be on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside United Methodist Church with Rev. Kristine Frank officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. with a Fraternal Order of the Eastern Star Service to follow at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Betty was born on January 23, 1930 in Sioux City to Francis W. and Mary B. (Skoglund) Holtgrew. She attended Sioux City Schools. Betty was united in marriage to George Cleo Watkins on October 1, 1949 in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2005. Together Betty and George owned and operated retail and rental business's in Riverside. Of all the business's they ran, she enjoyed running the Boulevard Laundry the most, which she operated for 10 years. Besides dedicating their time to work and family, Betty also found time to devote time to her church at Riverside United Methodist Church and the Abu Bekr Shrine - Ladies Wreking Crew and was also a member of the Grand Chapter Silver-Azure Eastern Star. Betty loved traveling and being with her grandchildren. She is survived by her 4 children Dennis (Evie) Watkins of Phoenix, AZ; Rick (Cindy) Watkins of Nunica, MI; Kim (Ron) Sopoci of Aurora, CO; and Tracy Watkins of Sioux City; grandchildren Jeremy Watkins; Traver and Betsy Sopoci; Joey Watkins; Christopher and Taryen Watkins; Jamie Watkins; Jesse and Tia Watkins; Kalyn Watkins; Leigh Watkins; and Katy Watkins; great grandchildren Tyler Watkins; Kylie Watkins; Cody Watkins; Gianna Sopoci; Paityn Watkins; Reagan Sopoci; Alyssa Watkins; Ryder Watkins; Weston Watkins; 2 sisters Barbara (Jon) Neubaum of Magnolia, TX and Judith (Gene) Blanchard of Arroyo Grande, CA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55years George Watkins, infant daughter Pamela Watkins, her parents, a brother James Holtgrew, and a sister Sharon Olson. Pallbearers will be Marvin Watkins, Keith Moriston, Craig Holder, Joseph Appel, Keith Appel and Don Johnson.
