Maisie "Kay" Kaplan, 89, of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, October 12 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15 at Congregation Beth Shalom. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Sioux City. Maisie was born October 27, 1923 in Birmingham, England, the daughter of Newman and Gertrude (Rosen) Chesses. After graduating high school, Maisie served in the Women's Royal Naval Service during WWII in Gibraltar. She worked in occupied Germany for the British Intelligence, and was later a secretary working in Jamaica, Miami, Los Angeles and Chicago. She met Morton Kaplan in Chicago, and the couple married on June 1, 1958, in Highland Park, IL. To this union, two sons were born. Morton passed away on January 7th, 2001, on Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas. The couple lived in Mankato, MN from 1958 until 1992, when they moved to Dakota Dunes, SD. Maisie and Morton were avid golfers, playing golf together daily when the weather allowed. Maisie also loved to travel. She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom. Survivors include her sons: David and wife Julie Kaplan of Sioux City, and Daniel and wife Ellen Kaplan of Sioux City; six grandchildren: Adam, Cassy, Emily, Max, Jacob, and Kate; and two sisters Rita and husband Michael Plotnek of Solihull, England, and Sandra Woolfenden of Torquay, England. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Morton, and brother Freddy Chesses. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Siouxland
