Theodore W. "Ted" Hurd, 84, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, October 9th, 2013 at a local hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 14th, 2013 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1201 Clifton Ave., Sioux City. Burial will take place at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Ted was born February 10, 1929 in Panaca, NV the son of Walker H. and Leola (Cutler) Hurd. Walker and Leola moved to Smithland, IA prior to Ted's 2nd Birthday, where they lived until Ted was 14, and then they moved to Sioux City. At the age of 16, Ted began working at the Sioux City Stockyards driving herds due to family illness, which began a 47 year career with the stockyards. He retired as the last supervisor for the Sioux City Stockyards. Ted married Betty Andriss in Aug. 1949, to this union 5 children were born. On May 2nd, 1970, he married Dorothy Heck in Sioux City. Ted was an active member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints throughout his life. He held many callings during his 65 years of membership, serving the brother and sisters of the church. Ted is survived by his wife Dorothy (Heck) Hurd; his children Michael (Kathy) Hurd from Orem, Utah, David Hurd of Sioux City, Kathy (Robert) Bakker of Dakota City, NE, and William Hurd (Marlene) of Sioux City; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Allen Hurd, sisters Alveretta Castle and Winnifred Thompson, and brothers Royal Hurd and Raymond Hurd.
