Dennis A. Gross, 63, of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, after courageously battling a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 14, 2013 at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Reverend James Travis officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 P.M. on Sunday, October 13, 2013 with family present from 5 to 7 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Dennis will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery. Dennis was born on September 6, 1950, in Sioux City to Alva and Anna (née Schmidt) Gross. He married his one and only love, Karen Kay Gross (née Bowers) on August 27, 1971, and earned his bachelors of science from Morningside College in 1972, and his masters of science in education from Wayne State University in 1989. He served in the Army National Guard from 1972 to 1978. Dennis taught at Kingsley-Pierson schools from 1972 to 1989. After earning his masters degree, he was a guidance counsel for the Woodbury Central and Lawton-Bronson school districts from 1989 to 1997. He most recently was a guidance counselor at Sioux City North High School from 1997 to May 2013. Dennis was a master woodworker and carpenter and loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and being the world's best "papa" to his two grandchildren. He is survived by his wife; his daughter Sarah Jane Feltes and her husband Daniel and children Matthew and Megan of Chicago, Illinois; his son Andrew and his wife Alexis Gross (née Perez) also of Chicago, Illinois; his mother Anna; his brother DeWayne (Lori) Gross; his sisters Beverly (Gary) DeWald, Belinda (Kerry) Bliven and Barbara (James) Sitzmann; sister-in-law Susan (Reginald) McCloud; brother-in-law Michael (Ruth Ann) Bowers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Alva and parents-in-law, Leonard and Joyce Bowers.
