SIOUX CITY | Leola A. Noreen, 88, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at her residence following a brief illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of The Nativity, with the Rev. Steven J. McLoud officiating. There will be an honor guard by the St. Vincent Nursing Alumni. Cremation will follow the service. Private family graveside services will be in Graceland Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a rosary service at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Leola was born on Feb. 16, 1925, in Fairfax, Minn., the daughter of Oscar and Magdalen (Ludowese) Decker. Following graduation from Emmetsburg (Iowa) High School, she moved to Sioux City and received her R.N. degree from St. Vincent School of Nursing. She worked at St. Vincent Hospital, Westwood Nursing Home and retired from Julia's Nursing Home. On Feb. 28, 1947, she married Raymond E. Noreen in Sioux City. They raised six sons. Ray died on April 14, 2006, in Sioux City. She was a longtime member of Church of The Nativity, where she was involved in making rosaries. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of The Americas and volunteered at the Bargain Center. Leola enjoyed her bowling league, her vegetable and flower garden, where roses were her favorite. She loved family gatherings and was a wonderful cook. Survivors include five sons and their wives, Steven and JoLaine of Sioux City and their sons, Bryan and Bryce, Tom and Kris of Sioux City and their sons, Nick (Annie) and Matt, Jim and Connie of Sioux City and their children, Tony, Billi Jo (Eric) Ray and Jesse (Danelle), Pat and Janelle of McCook Lake, S.D. and their children, Shana (Matt) Adams, Shane and Courtney and Ray and Renee of Sioux City and their son, Tyler; two sisters, Delores (LaBrie) and her husband, Ray Grueter of Bella Vista, Ark., and Louise Leuer of Emmetsburg; a brother, Vernon (Betty) Decker of Marshalltown, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Norm Williams of Sioux City, and Kenny Graesing of Linn Grove, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Bill; three sisters, Ethel Williams, Kathleen Graesing, and Mary Zitzlsperger; brothers-in-law, Eugene Zitzlsperger, Roland LaBrie and John Leuer; and a daughter-in-law, Sheryl Noreen. Pallbearers will be her sons. Memorials will be at the discretion of the family.
