The family moved to Alexandria and Emery, S.D., as farmers. A few years later, the family moved to Sioux City. Madeline graduated from Central High School. Because of her interest in the health care field, she joined George Washington University in Washington, D.C., for a two-year course in business administration. Madeline met and married Charles K. Sullivan, a native of Indiana. They were married at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa, on March 10, 1940. The couple moved to California in 1947. In the first year of their marriage, Madeline and Charles gave their hearts to the Lord Jesus and became devout Christians. While living in California, their fellowship united them with the most renowned leaders, such as Billy Graham, Oral Roberts, Dr. Lentz, Fred Jordon and many others. The couple returned to Sioux City in 1960 and purchased the Leeds Nursing Home. Two years later they also purchased Restview Nursing Home. They built the first brick facility, Green Acres Nursing Home in South Sioux City, now known as Regency Square Care Center, which they sold in 1968. They continued with the other two homes until 1976. Charles died on Feb. 13, 1971. In 1973, she turned her interest to club activities for fellowship, companionship and leadership. She joined the Fraternal Order 2492 Eagles Club in South Sioux City, where Madeline met Oliver Flaugh. The couple were married at the Crystal Cathedral by Dr. Bailey on March 3, 1977. Oliver died on May 21, 1979. One of Madeline's passions was her love of dancing which began at age 18. Her Wurlitzer organ music was in her soul. She enjoyed friendship, companionship, leadership and politics. From 1979 to 1989, she organized the dances for singles at the Eagles Club. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Isis Chapter, the Sioux City Women's Club, Daughters of the Nile, Masonic Temple Hater Temple No. 38, and Girls of '68. She served on the board of the Siouxland Senior Center for seven years and was elected to the board of the YMCA from 1973 to 1980. She joined the South Sioux City Toastmistress Club when they built Green Acres Nursing Home in 1962. Madeline held offices in the local and state Nursing Home Association, plus she was a member of the National Association American College of Nursing Home Administrators. Sullivan of Dallas, Texas, and Jana Sullivan of Sioux City, and their children, Christopher and Emily; a daughter, Geraldine Fitzgerald of Milwaukee, Wis., and her children, Cherry, Madeline, Carol, Rebeca and Katie; a brother, John J.
