Norma L. Weisensee, 102, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 at a local care facility. Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Reverend David Koehler officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences can be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Norma was born August 21, 1911 in Wahoo, Nebraska, the daughter of Earl and Alice (Anderson) Staudinger. After graduating from Wahoo High School she attended Luther College in Wahoo and UCLA and USC in California. She entered the teaching field first teaching in Tekamah, Nebraska and then in Onawa, Iowa. In 1936 she married John P. Weisensee, an administrator in the Sioux City Public Schools, who preceded her in death in 1967. After moving to Sioux City in 1943, Norma resumed her teaching career in the Sioux City Public Schools and continued her education at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, the University of South Dakota, and at Morningside College where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1959. Throughout her life she enjoyed word-wide travel. She was a long-time member of Morningside Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities, being an active member of the Board of Deacons and Chairman of a circle of the MPW Women's Association. She was a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital for eight years. She was a member of the Sioux City Branch of AAUW, the Sioux City Women's Club, Fidelis Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary sorority of women educators and Sioux City Retired Educators. Norma is survived by one son, Jack (Barbara) Weisensee of Lisle, Illinois; one daughter, Jean (Carl) Almquist of Denver, Colorado, eight grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; one daughter, Beth; one sister, Helen.
