SIOUX CITY, IA | Gust A. Segos, 86 of Sioux City, IA died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with Father Dimitri Tobias officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday and a Trisagion service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Gust was born Aug. 25, 1927 in Trahili, Evia Greece to Andrew A. and Patricia (Simitsi) Segos. He worked as a police officer in Athens, Greece before coming to the United States in 1956. On March 11, 1956 he married Afrodity Dunu in Sioux City. Gust became a welder and worked on aluminum towers. As a welder he also helped on the construction of I.B.P. He was later hired directly by I.B.P. and worked there until his retirement in 1993. Gust was a longtime active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. He assisted many relatives from overseas to come to the U.S.A. He enjoyed gardening and was a handyman. He will be remembered for the passion he showed for his family, friends, church and work. Survivors include his wife, Afrodity; a daughter and her husband, Patty and Richard Bean of Dubuque, Iowa; a son and his wife, Andrew and Vesna Segos; 3 grandchildren, Bobby Bean, Andrew Bean and Sofia Segos; 5 siblings, Maria (George) Sbiliris, Basilis (Maria) Segos, Apostolis (Voula) Segos, Katina Papachristou, and Voula Kamaritis; a sister-in-law, Mavra Sengos; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Dimitri and Angelo and a sister, Panayota. Pallbearers will be Nick Fondoulakis, Dr. Andres Sengos, Bobby Bean, Andrew Bean, Hank Mobley and Ray McAvoy. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Bill Sbiliris and Dr. Andy Sbiliris. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
