Helen Martin of Lake View, IA formally of Sioux City passed away September 9th, 2013. Services will be held in Lake View, IA at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, September 11th, 2013 with Reverend Don Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Helen Martin was born on February 3rd, 1912 in Arriba, Colorado. She was the daughter of John and Agnes (King) Graham. They moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska and then to Homer, Nebraska. Helen graduated from Homer High School and then attended Wayne State Teacher's College. She taught at rural schools in Dakota County, Nebraska. She married Melvin Martin of Homer in Tekamah, Nebraska on May 31st, 1935. They moved to Sioux City, IA in 1945. Melvin died in 1995. Helen was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church of Sioux City, while there she was a member of the Ladies Aid and Esther Circle. In 1997 she moved to Lake View to live with her daughter Melva Case, became a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid. Survivors include three children, Melva Case of Lake View, IA, Cheryl (Paul) Skidmore of Topeka, KS and Kent Martin of Colorado Springs, CO, a sister in law Gladys Graham of Sioux City; seven grandchildren: Dave Bruscher Jr., Dan Bruscher, Dean Bruscher, Deb Kennebeck, Kent Allen Lammers, Curtis Martin, and Angela Thomas, twelve great grandchildren, and eleven great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Martin, parents John and Agnes (King) Graham, and two brothers Lawrence and Leonard Graham.
