John W. Rasmussen

John W. Rasmussen, 78 of Dakota Dunes, SD passed away on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 at a Sioux City Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church at Dakota Dunes, SD, Rev. Robert Lacey will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. John was born Nov. 29, 1934 in Sioux City; he was the son of Oscar and Ella (Schulz) Rasmussen. He grew up on the family farm in Elk Point where he attended school. He began driving semis at the age of 18 and was a member of the Teamsters Union. After his retirement he became a school bus driver and currently drove for the South Sioux City School District. He married Norene Schott Aug. 16, 1963 in Elk Point, SD. John was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church and the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed traveling and yardwork. Survivors include his wife Norene of Dakota Dunes, SD; 5 sons: Joe Allen Rasmussen and his wife Pat of Florida, John Ray Rasmussen and his wife RoxAnn of Shelby, NE, Jeffrey John Rasmussen of Park City, KS, Jerry William Rasmussen and his wife Tanya of Dakota Dunes, SD, Jason Michael Rasmussen of Memphis, TN; 1 sister: Ruth Bovee of Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert, Arnold, Lawrence and Emole and a sister, Ann.
